got this pillow to go with the sleeping mats and pads that i got for camping. i actually use this little pillow more on long car rides than i do with camping. it is very comfortable. small enough to use in alot of different situations but comfortable and fluffy enough to be supportive as well. inflates with just a few breaths, deflates easily to pack away into a very small bag for travel. The surface on the outside of the pillow is soft to the skin so you dont have to put any type of cover on it if you dont want to. seams are strong, no issues with leaking so far. quality is great and price is reasonable
This is very comparable to the other backpacking pillows I own that cost 2 and 3 times more. It seems just as good quality, very soft and comfortable. I look forward to using it on my next trip.
I used this while spike camping a few weeks back in Colorado. It has a nice soft exterior and good side so your head doesn't roll off. Only takes a few full breaths to fill it up too. Packs down small, although its not an ultralight pillow it is larger than others for comfort.
This took very little room in my pack, but inflated to a nice size.Larger than I expected and definitely comfortable.Easy to inflate and deflate.Sturdy and seems like it will last.
I’ve traditionally shied away from air pillows because of old car wreck neck issues but decided to give this a real try to cut down on back packing weight and bulk, My “AIRELAX Ultra Light Inflatable Outdoor Camping Pillow” weighed in at 3.8 oz and the stuff sack an addition 0.2 oz. Turns out there is a learning curve to using this crinkly thing. My immediate “not going to work,” turned to a begrudging “maybe,” and has kind of slid into an optimistic “this works."The combination air valve is a bit bulky and a little hard to use. The cap works great. The controlled release valve is a pain to figure out. You have to push down into the center and then pretty hard to the side. If you push/lock the second section relief valve all the way in to the air outlet,… it is ridiculously hard to open it back up. As long as it doesn't start popping open, until it loosens up, I am not locking it all the way down to extend its life.While the cover of the air pillow slides freely, you can't remove it. It's attached around the Nozzle. The fabric texture helps lock things into place while keeping it comfy against the skin, and I discovered I could play with different inflation levels combined with leveraging various body parts to achieve decent results for me.For perspective I have been lugging around a Compressible thermarest memory foam pillow, which is bulky and heavy in backpacking world. I am mostly a a toss and turn stomach /side sleeper who often throws my leg over my backpack shoved in a garbage bag next to my inflatable pad.For stomach sleeping, at about ? inflation, I liked putting part of the pillow under my shoulder and the other end of the pillow under my cheek/ear area with my face away from that shoulder. When I move to facing the pillowed shoulder, the other pillow end goes over the side of my chin instead. For me it's all about locking in the angle of my head rotation. For side sleeping, at that same partial inflation, I can slide part of the pillow down under my shoulder so it fluffs the part under the head up fuller.Another cool discovery I made is when the pillow is full, if you lay it flat on the pad, it might not be thick enough for side sleeping. However, if you take the curved part up to your neck and kind of tuck it up over your ground shoulder, it works great. Regardless, I find my inflation preference varies greatly on different sleeping pads or surfaces.
