I ordered this coffee pot to bring camping, because I'm one of those people who needs a caffeine fix each morning. The pot comes with two glass lids, the inner workings of a percolator, and a bail handle. The metal feels sturdy and substantial, not flimsy like a lot of camping cookware. This pot could be used as a plain kettle to boil water when used without the inner percolator parts. I've only tested it on the stovetop, but it worked great to make coffee, and both the wooden handle and the bail handle stayed cool to the touch. For those of you who've never used a percolator, it works by putting the coffee grounds in the perforated metal basket after filling the pot with cold water to the desired serving line. The lines are shown on the exterior of the coffee pot. Most people recommend one or two tablespoons of grounds per cup of coffee, but the great thing about percolators is that you can also regulate the coffee strength by how long you let the thing perk. Once the coffee starts to bubble up into the glass lid, you should let it perk for 7-10 minutes and then remove the pot from the heat source and serve. Be careful not to boil/perk for more than 10 minutes because the coffee may start to taste burned and bitter. I find that it takes some getting used to pour from a percolator, since they are top-heavy (from the used coffee grounds). For my next pot of coffee, I will use about half the amount of coffee grounds for a full (9-cup) pot of coffee, or perhaps even less, since my first batch was almost espresso strength. However, tastes and preferences vary, so I would recommend that you try the pot out before taking it camping in order to know what ratio of grounds to water will produce your ideal cup of coffee.

The percolator came with the tube, tube stand, basket with a lid, and a glass viewing top.
It's made with sturdy 0.03" thick stainless steel which does not easily dent. Seems very study and heats up well.
Almost adequate wood handle as there's the possibility of your finger touching the top steel part of the handle if not careful. Just watch that.
Although paper filters were not included, those are a very inexpensive item. Not something I've ever used in a percolator. I just use a coarser grind that prevents too much grounds getting into the water (for me). Some pour the coffee through a filter into their cup.
I prefer the flavor of a percolator and although versatile for the campsite, it's just as easily used on a home stove. Vary the strength by how long you let it percolate.

Works great, and the coffee tastes fine. I would’ve preferred an option for a larger pot, because I drink more coffee in one or two days than this makes at one time. I usually make a full pot in an average drip machine and then reheat it the following day, but this percolator only fills a 12 cup automatic drip coffee pot 1/2 full. I decided to get it b/c I don’t like the idea of drinking hot coffee made by running it through plastic, and the manufacturers don’t even tell you if the plastic is safe. I looked for automatic drip machines made with all stainless steel, but nothing came up, so now i just use the drip machine to reheat my percolated coffee.

When we lost power for 2 weeks following Helene, we were able to make coffee on the propane stove top.
Coffee even tasted better than our electric percolator.
Also used this to heat water, soups, tea, etc.
This little coffee pot turned a bad situation into tolerable.

I like it so much that I bought another one. Might be a conspiracy, but I believe you use less coffee with a percolator type coffee pot than you do using a new fangled coffee maker. Yeah, "Big Coffee" wants you to buy more coffee to support Juan Valdez and all his cronies in South America. 😁

I use this on the job, with Coleman camping burner. Pot is nice, only upgrade it needs is top of handle i will add more wood on handle. Not sure why, but my same brand coffee taste better in this pot.
I leave percolator insides out, I make my on coffee pods with standard filters and tie with cotton string on top. Fill pot with water, though in my homemade pod, and get it hot. After it boil's for 10 minutes you have coffee.

I’ve used this percolator/coffee pot both indoors on the stovetop and outside on a campfire; it performs just fine in either situation. My mother had a smaller version of this pot that she used on her range.

Before I bought a percolator, I used a standard cooking pot on a campfire to boil water and dumped the ground coffee into it. Some call that Cowboy Coffee but it’s just something I’ve always known from watching my grandparents camping. I travel with a bare minimum of utensils and multi-purpose them. If you’re not accustomed to making/drinking coffee made that way, then using this percolator will help you adjust to basic camp-style cooking methods. You can control your brew strength better with a percolator.

This is made to work with ground coffee, not instant. Also, don’t empty K-cups into this because it won’t work with anything but course ground coffee beans (K-cups are filled with coffee dust.) A good percolator must be sturdy enough to boil water up through the grounds for an extended period to extract the full coffee flavor. Only course ground can withstand this cooking method. If you use instant, fine or medium ground, all you’ll end up with is a mess because the grounds will pass through the filter.

I buy ground coffee for convenience. You can grind your own beans and achieve the same or better results; fresh ground is always better, but ready ground tastes good to me. I bare bones camp and filters are a frill so I don’t use them. If you don’t use a filter, then you should expect your coffee to be stronger because some of the grounds invariably fall through the metal strainer along with the brew. If you like strong coffee, use less water; if you like it weaker, use more.

Once it begins to boil, let it percolate (bubbling up through the glass lid) for 7 minutes, then remove the pot from the heat source and let it sit. The first pour goes into my cup which I enjoy for a few minutes as I let the brew steep. Then I immediately pour the rest of the coffee into an insulated thermos. Leave a bit in the bottom of the pot so you don’t pour any of the grounds into your thermos. I do this whether I’m at home or camping to keep the brew hot so I can continue to enjoy it throughout the day. I then remove the filter unit and rinse out the percolator immediately. If you want to continue drinking from the pot, then just remove the filter. Don’t keep the filter in the pot and continue to drink from it. The grounds will continue to drip, and you’ll end up with a very bitter brew. This extra step will save your brew from being too acidic. If you reheat it with the grounds, it will be the worst thing you ever drink; don’t do it unless you enjoy heartburn. This may seem foreign to those of you who grew up on Keurig and espresso machines so I’m sharing this to help you understand the process. It’s not a quick method but it’s worth the effort. Old school coffee at its finest!

Be mindful of the metal edge on the lid hinge as it feels rough. Same with the top portion of the brackets used for the wire hanger. Because of this I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. All other metal parts are smooth, as is the wood handle. I recommend this product.

Bonus: An extra glass knob is provided for the lid.

i've been making instant and drip coffee, and they were just weak and bland. thought i'd try perc coffee again. perc coffee is the real thing! this coffee pot is all metal, no plastic, which i definitely wanted. i have good coffee at home at last!

The percolator is well-made, and I've been using it both on the camp stove (MSR pocket rocket) and on my kitchen stove when I want a change of pace.

To the younger generation, the percolator must be an oddity, but I grew up seeing the glass Pyrex percolator on the stove not only at our house, but everyone had one. However, I only bought this because I was totally dissatisfied with instant coffee when camping.

So, this works as you would expect. Starting with a whole bean, grind to a fairly coarse setting (I use 26 on a Baratza burr grinder), six tablespoons ground coffee, 32 ounces of water, and percolate for seven minutes. Even though it has a stainless steel strainer, I also use a single layer of a coffee filter which helps ensure the coffee grains don't drop through. Make sure to turn the heat down just after you see the water enter the glass top. It makes a different-tasting coffee than drip or an americano, so it is a good change of pace at home, and to be clear, tastes pretty good to me - and especially good when camping!

The percolator has a wooden handle and I do not have any problems with it being too hot - I can remove it from the burner bare-handed and it is not a problem. This percolator is offered at a decent price and it is well made, and very well worth the price. I absolutely recommend this percolator.

I know a lot of people do not like perforated coffee but this actually works very good and I have not had very many coffee grinds in my coffee at also makes it extra super strong perfect to wake you up in the morning

The percolator takes a little practice if you are not used to making coffee via this method. My first pot was too weak, but my second pot turned out well after adjusting the coffee grind and brew time. It comes with an extra glass nob in case the first one breaks. The clear knob allows you to see how dark your coffee is so you know when to remove it from the heat. It is compatible with the stovetop and over a fire, so it is a great solution for no electricity camping. The parts come apart and are easy to clean. It is a good size for 1-2 heavy coffee drinkers or 2-3 normal coffee drinkers.
